About the company
Efference provides high-performance perception and compute infrastructure for training and deploying robot models in the cloud. Our vision is to make robotic deployments scalable with shared compute.
We approach the problem by owning the entire path from the image sensor to the datacenter GPU. We shrink the load at the sensor, fix the uplink so robot traffic is fast and reliable, and clock synchronize the system so observations arrive time-aligned, ready for inference.
About the role
You'll own the Linux platform that brings Efference hardware to life and keeps it running in the field. Your work will give camera, wireless, and perception engineers a dependable base for building low-latency systems on custom boards.
What you’ll do
- Bring up new hardware from bootloader and board support package through kernel, device trees, peripheral drivers, and system services.
- Build reproducible operating system images and cross-compilation toolchains, maintaining a clear path from development builds to released firmware.
- Integrate camera, network, IMU, and accelerator subsystems with their owners; resolve memory, interrupt, power, and bus-level conflicts.
- Implement platform support for hardware timestamps, clock synchronization, and scheduling, measuring behavior under combined camera, radio, and compute load.
- Develop secure boot and signed update support, recovery paths, watchdogs, and useful device diagnostics with the fleet and SDK teams.
- Debug kernel crashes, boot failures, resource leaks, and thermal or power-related behavior; turn fixes into automated board and release checks.
What we are looking for
- Experience shipping embedded Linux products, including board bring-up, kernel development, or substantial BSP ownership.
- Strong C/C++ skills and knowledge of Linux memory management, concurrency, device models, and userspace interfaces.
- Experience with bootloaders, device trees, cross-compilation, and build systems such as Yocto or Buildroot.
- Ability to read schematics and datasheets and use serial consoles, JTAG, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers during debugging.
- A record of diagnosing failures across hardware and software and maintaining platform changes through production releases.
Nice to Have
- Experience with ARM SoCs, Jetson, PCIe, MIPI interfaces, or heterogeneous CPU/NPU platforms.
- Work on PREEMPT_RT, PTP, DMA-BUF, zero-copy pipelines, or Linux performance tracing.
- Experience with fleet updates, device security, manufacturing provisioning, or upstream Linux contributions.
